Another Nigerian Awarded World Prize Laureate in 2017

At a ceremony held at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C on Monday 26th June, 2017, another Nigerian, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, was named the 2017 World Food Prize Laureate after the renowned Professor Wole Soyinka, who won Nobel Laureate in Literature in 1986.
The incumbent President of African Development Bank (AfDB) was selected to become the 46th recipient and the 6th African to be honoured with the award.
Adesina was the Nigeria Minister of Agriculture under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Moji Olaiya's Body Arrives Nigeria Ahead of Her Burial (Photos)

The body of actress Moji Olaiya, arrived Nigeria early yesterday 6 June, 2017. Her body which was brought in from Canada where she died, arrived the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos and was received by her family members and some friends.
A memorial service was held in her honour at the LTV Blue Roof on Tuesday.

A Nigerian Varsity Launches A Cubesat Into U.S. Space

A Nigerian varsity launched a Cubesat codenamed NigeriaEdusat-1, into space from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, United States. The Nigerian CubeSat is designed, built and owned by the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
The Nigerian Cubesat is a component of the Birds 1 satellites, comprising of four other CubeSats belonging to Japan, Ghana, Mongolia and Bangladesh. They were launched from the SpaceX Falcon9 Rocket.

Nigeria Schools Ready to Teach Math, Science Subjects in Local Languages

The Federal Government says primary and secondary schools in the country will soon start teaching Mathematics and Science subjects in indigenous languages. The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, revealed this at the inauguration of the inter-ministerial committee in the teaching of Mathematics and Science subjects in Local languages in Abuja on 31 May, 2017.
The inter-ministerial committee involved Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education. He said the inter-ministerial committee would help to develop the capacity of the local languages to serve as effective tools for teaching mathematics and science subjects.
