SEN. LEKAN BALOGUN IS CROWNED AS 42ND OLUBADAN OF IBADANLAND

Ibadan Indigenes and residents of Oyo State, and all well-wishers trooped out en masse yesterday Friday, 11 March 2022, to the venue of coronation ceremony of Senator Moshood Olalekan Balogun, as the 42nd Oba Olubadan of Ibadanland at Mapo Hall.

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde presented the staff of office to Oba Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan at the coronation ceremony and urged monarchs not to dabble into politics.

Shortly after the presentation of the staff of office, former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, the Osi Olubadan, led other high chiefs to pay homage to the new monarch.

The monarch in his maiden speech thanked dignitaries and the people of Ibadanland for their support for him to ascend the throne after 36 years as the Mogaji of Ali-Iwo compound.

The Ali-Iwo Compound of the new Olubadan, was a beehive of ceremonial activities, as women sang praises of the Ali-Iwo family.

Other Dignitaries who graced the coronation of Sen. Olalekan Balogun as the 42nd  Olubadan of Ibadanland were, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; former Vice President Atiku Abubarkar; Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state; Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State; Deputy Governor of Osun, Benedict Alabi and Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State.

Also at the event were the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar; Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan; and Ambassador of Republic of China to Nigeria, Cui Jiauchun.
Oba Yusuf Adeleye, the Olubaka of Okaland in Ondo State; Oluwo of Iwoland; the Okere of Saki, Aseyin of Iseyin and a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro were also present.
Many associations, in different attire, were seen within and outside Mapo Hall, dancing to indigenous Ibadan songs, as Fuji musician, Taiye Currency also displayed at the historical event.

Traditional drummers and native praise-singers, with scores of well-wishers, were also seen at different locations on Oje-Beere-Oja-Oba Road.
