The Super Eagles of Nigeria did
qualify for the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations AFCON 2023 in Ivory
Coast after gaining a 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau at Felix Houphouet Boigny stadium today,
Monday January 22, 2024.
The Super Eagles finished their group
stage with 7 points.
Although the Eagles
will need to improve as the tournament goes on according to the tournament
observers, their first mission has been carried out successfully.
As
for Guinea-Bissau, they can take a lot of heart from that showing but they bow
out of AFCON 2023 without any points while the host Ivory Coast on drag to
qualify but lost to Equatorial
Guinea.With
Equatorial Guinea 4-0 humiliation of hosts Ivory Coast, the Super Eagles are in second place in Group A with
seven points, behind the Equatorial with a far better goal difference.
The Super Eagles will
now stay in Abidjan at the same Stadium for a last-16 tie on Saturday against
the runners-up in Group C, which will be Senegal, Guinea or Cameroon.
