Nigerian veteran
singer and actress, Onyeka Onwenu died on Tuesday evening, 30 July, 2024, at
Reddington Hospital, Lagos. She was reportedly slumped after playing at a
birthday party. The ace singer was rushed to Reddington Hospital but couldn’t
make it. Eyewitnesses at the party confirmed the incident.
Born 31st January
1952, the late singer turned politician and rights activist was dubbed “The
Elegant Stallion” by the Nigerian press. She was at a time the Chairperson of
the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture. She was appointed the Executive
Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development
in 2013.
She will be remembered
for her numerous songs and albums, among them are: “Wait for me” which she sang
with Juju meastro, King Sunny Ade, The Morning Light and Dancing in The Sun.
She also featured in movies like “Half of a Yellow Sun” and “Lions Heart”,
among others.
