Osun
State High Court has found the popular hotelier, Dr Ramoni Adedoyin guilty in
the murder case of Timothy Adegoke. The
court, under the ruling of Chief Judge Adepele Ojo, sentenced Adedoyin, who is the
owner of the Hilton hotel, to death by hanging on Tuesday, 30 May 2023.
The victim, Timothy was a former master’s degree student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, whose death occurred at Hilton Honours Hotel, Ile-Ife between 5 and 7 November 2021.
The
Osun Chief Judge, Adepele Ojo, while delivering her judgment on the case, on
Tuesday, 30 May 2023, held that the circumstantial evidence available to the
court, pointed to the killing of Adegoke while he was happened to be a guest at
the hotel owned by Adedoyin.
According
to her, Adedoyin’s decision not to enter the witness box did not help him, as
the circumstantial evidence had shifted the burden of proof on him. Hence, the
state of alibi pleaded was null and void.
Justice Ojo also said Adedoyin’s decision not to enter the witness box
meant he agreed to the murder charge pressed against him by the prosecution and
he was held a sentence to death by hanging.
