Nigeria Super Falcons Draw Canada in Women's World Cup 2023

The Nigerian Super Falcons held a 0-0 draw game against the Olympic champions Canada at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on 21 July 2023 in Melbourne, Australia.

The Olympic champions Canada were forced to settle for the goalless draw after Canadian captain Christine Sinclair’s penalty was saved by Nigerian Super Falcons Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

It was a heroic performance by every single member of the Nigerian team, but Chiamaka stood out to prove more superb after saving a second half penalty and ensuring that the most successful African team of all-time earned a point in Melbourne despite finishing the game with a player less.

It wasn’t the big moment of the game when Nigeria’s Falcon players trooped out with
enthusiasm to pose for a team photo prior to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 Group B match between Nigeria and Canada at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.

The big moment in Melbourne was when Chiamaka Nnadozie saved penalty kick off from Canada’s Sinclair, who is the world’s all-time leading international scorer. She shot towards the low right corner where the Super

Falcons captain dove to first parry the ball with a defiant one-handed stop to deny the 40-year-old Canadian forward’s dreamt effort.

Nigeria's efforts continued to frustrate the Red and White who are hoping to add the football world title to their Olympic gold.

A red card was later handed to Deborah Ajbola Abiodun in the 90+8 minute for a dangerous tackle. Still, the game ended in a stalemate with Canada.

The result left fans of the Super Eagles delighted but the happier fans were probably the Australians who trooped into the match venue, given that it left their country atop Group B in the early going, following Australia’s
1-0 win over Ireland.

Next up for the Super Falcons are the Aussies, while Canada Nigeria will take on Ireland.
