President Goodluck Jonathan Met with Pope Francis in Vatican
President Goodluck
Jonathan has embarked on a visit to the Vatican Pope Francis on Saturday 22nd
March 2014 with delegations of Christian pilgrims from Anambra, Kaduna and the
Federal Capital Territory. The President met with Pope Francis and the
Vatican’s Secretary of State, Monsignor Pietro Parolin, in Rome but the
entourages remained at the courtyard while the papal audience lasted.

Ife Day celebration on Saturday, myriad of eminent Yorubas and new breeds of
Yoruba progenitors stormed Ile-Ife for the celebration of 2014 Ife Day.
Among the
prominent figures blessed the occasion were governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode
Fayemi, the newly appointed Minister for Police Affairs, Alhaji Abdul Jelili
Adesiyan, Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, one of the

(APC) in Oyo State, has assured that no amount of blackmail from the opposition

its nationals in Cape Town, its foreign ministry has said.
President Jonathan Paid Homage to Hajia Aya Dada, Late President Umar Yar’ Adua’s Mother
President Jonathan has embarked on
two-day visit to Katsina and arrived at Yar’Adua’s Compound at 9.20am
accompanied by Gov. Ibrahim Shema.
Jonathan and his entourage were
received by Alhaji Mustapha, the younger brother of the late president who led
them to their matriarch.
As Shema introduced the President to
Hajia Aya Dada, President Jonathan in humility knelt down before her to receive
a motherly blessing.
He also paid homage to late
Yar’Adua’s elder brother Alhaji Yusuf Musa Yar’Adua before leaving the
compound.

Why I Was Left Out of the Centenary Awards – Pete Edochie
THE
Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) which took place last week honoured
over 29 African entertainers during included veteran actor, Pete Edochie, who was
honoured with the Industry Merit Awards and was presented with a Hyundai car to
go with the award.
In a telephone interview with Tribune, the celebrated actor said on the award “It required MultiChoice/DStv to give me that recognition, good, you know, it’s a good thing for DSTV to do. By the time I did Things Fall Apart, there was nothing like Nollywood.

International Women’s Day: Nigeria Urged to Stop Unwarranted Deaths
As the world today marking the
International Women’s Day 2014, Nigerian women have been enjoined to
become agents of change to themselves and their families.
Nigerian women, according to
this year’s slogan, “Inspiring Change”, called to reflect on opportunities
and challenges facing them especially during the nation’s centenary
celebration.
Facebook, YouTube May Face Ban in Turkey
Recep Erdogan, The Turkish Prime Minister, on
Friday, said he was seeking for ways to ban YouTube and Facebook after local
elections at the end of March.
Erdogan made the remarks in a Turkish television
interview programme following the leakage of recordings of his private
conversations, apparently through wiretaps.
He said, “We will not let YouTube and Facebook
destroy our nation.
“We will take measures, including closure.”
Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo to Head AU Panel on S. Sudan Crisis
The African Union Commission (AUC) has appointed
former President Olusegun Obasanjo to head its 5-member commission of inquiry
into the human rights abuses in the Republic of South Sudan.
The inquiry is expected to cover the over two month’s
violent period in the country. The commission has a mandated period of three months to report progress
of the situation but without a limited time to complete the assignment under
the financial support from the AU commission.

President Jonathan has declared that he does not own any
bank account or property outside Nigeria. He made the remark during the
swearing-in of the 11 new Ministers yesterday.

accounts or property abroad. All my children live and school in Nigeria.”

Players Are Authorized to Wear Veils, Turbans during Matches – FIFA
The world
football’s world governing body FIFA has officially authorized on Saturday
wearing of head covers for religious purposes during matches.
“It was decided
that female players can cover their heads to play,” said FIFA secretary general
Jerome Valcke at a meeting of the International Football Association Board
(IFAB), the sport’s lawmakers, in Zurich.
