Former
chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Oyo State, Mukaila
Lamidi (a.k.a Auxiliary) was on Monday arraigned before the Magistrate Court,
Iyaganku, Ibadan on two counts of charges; murder and conspiracy.
The
accused, who was arrested last month in Ibadan, was brought to the court
premises by armed policemen led by Inspector Banujoh Samson, of the Zonal
Headquarters of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Osogbo, while security at
the vicinity of the court was fortified by the presence of large number of mobile
policemen.
The
charge sheet number MI/689c/2014 accused Auxiliary of conspiring with others at
large to commit felony and murder around Iwo-Road area of Ibadan which is
punishable under section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38 Vol. II laws of Oyo
State of Nigeria, 2000.
It
stated that: “You Mukaila Lamidi a.k.a Auxiliary and others at large on the 2nd
day of March, 2014 at about 22.10hrs, at Mustard filling station, Iwo-Road, in
Ibadan Magisterial District did conspire with others still at large to commit
felony to wit; murder and thereby committed an offence contrary to and
punishable under section 324 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II laws of Oyo
State of Nigeria 2000.
“By
shooting him with a gun, you committed an offence punishable under Section 319
of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.”
Magistrate
O.K Omotosho ordered that the accused be remanded in Agodi prison while he also
adjourned the case to June 18, 2014.
Counsel
for Lamidi, Olumuyiwa Makinde, said his client was being victimised
politically, describing his arrest and appearance in court as an abuse of his
rights.
“This charge is politically motivated because the masterminds are
looking for a situation whereby he will be kept out of circulation until after
the 2015 general elections,” he said.
