The
Ibadan business mogul and philanthropist, Mufutau Ajadi Olaninhun died on
Sunday at the age of 69 after a prolonged illness and has been buried according
to Islamic rites on the same day. He is survived by wives, children and
grandchildren.
The
situation behind his death remains unclear as every family member was reticent
and short of words while a nearby family confirmed his death on the condition
of anonymity, said, “our father and brother is dead.” The immediate families
are expected to address public about Olaninhun’s death while they urge the
public to pray for his gentle soul and all his beloved ones he left behind.
The
popular businessman broke into economic reckoning in the late 80s and early 90s
when he became a pioneer importer of second-hand electronic gadgets from all
over the world in Ibadan. He made a huge fortune from the business,
establishing companies and he was revered for his philanthropic work, support
for Islamic religion and education. He built several mosques, schools and shopping
malls where his products were sold.
Among
the early mourners is Alhaji Isiaq Kunle Sanni, Chairman of Muslim Community in
Oyo State who described the deceased as a great philanthropist, leader and
benevolent individual who would be missed by both Islamic and non-Isamic Ummah
in general.
"His
contribution to industry and education in Nigeria will be remembered for ages.
In his private capacity, he gave thousands of scholarships to the less
privileged children and offered Zakah to others in need," he said. May his
gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
