CAF Verdict Vindicates Super Eagles over Libya after Airport Humiliation

The disciplinary committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Saturday awarded 3 points and 3 goals to the Super Eagles following the farce 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.

The Super Eagles consolidated their top position in the group following the verdict.

The Nigerian side now has 10 points from four matches; 4 points clear of nearest rivals Benin. Libya remains bottom of the group with one point from 4 games. The top two teams in the group qualify for the 2025 finals in Morocco.

Nigerian veteran singer and actress, Onyeka Onwenu died on Tuesday evening, 30 July, 2024, at Reddington Hospital, Lagos. She was reportedly slumped after playing at a birthday party. The ace singer was rushed to Reddington Hospital but couldn’t make it. Eyewitnesses at the party confirmed the incident.

Oba Owolabi Olakulehin Crowned as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland

In a colourful coronation took place at the ancient Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the state capital on Friday, 12 July 2024, the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, presented the Staff of Office and Instrument of Office to the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan.

The next-to-nonagenarian Olakuleyin took the staff of Office of Olubadan of Ibadan almost four month after the demise of the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who passed on, on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

The 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, passed on, on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

The Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced the passing of the foremost monarch in a statement in the night of the fateful day.

Oba Balogun ascended the throne of his forebears on March 11, 2022.

The late monarch, who reigned for two years, joined his ancestors at the age of 81 on Thursday night at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, after a brief illness.

Nigeria's Super Eagles picked its golden ticket and advanced to final after dramatic penalty shootout win over Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Wednesday, 7 February 2024, at Stade de la Paix de Bouake, Ivory Coast.  Nigeria booked their place in their first Africa Cup of Nations final since 2013.

After a slow first half, the Super Eagles took the lead from the spot when William Troost-Ekong fired home from the spot after Victor Osimhen was brought down.

Nigeria Super Eagles secured a semifinal ticket at the Africa Cup of Nations with 1 – 0 win over Angola in the last eight on Friday, 2 February 2024, at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The Nigerian history maker, Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, designer of the Nigerian Flag, died at the age of 87. He died on Wednesday, 30 August 2023, after a brief illness. 

His son, Akinkunmi Akinwumi Samuel, announced his death via social media on Wednesday.

Heavyweight Anthony Joshua Wins Robert Helenius with One-punch Knockout

Anthony Joshua, the British boxer of Nigerian origin, defeated the Finnish boxer, Robert Helenius, with one-punch knockout in round seven in their heavyweight boxing bout at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday night, 12th August 2023.

The former heavyweight champion won the fight after he handed his opponent from Finland a brutal punch in the seventh round in the first half of the match.

Osun State High Court Sentences A Hotelier Adedoyin to Death by Hanging

Osun State High Court has found the popular hotelier, Dr Ramoni Adedoyin guilty in the murder case of Timothy Adegoke. The court, under the ruling of Chief Judge Adepele Ojo, sentenced Adedoyin, who is the owner of the Hilton hotel, to death by hanging on Tuesday, 30 May 2023.

The victim, Timothy was a former master’s degree student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, whose death occurred at Hilton Honours Hotel, Ile-Ife between 5 and 7 November 2021.

Nigerian AIT Founder Raymond Dokpesi Passes On

Nigerian Media mogul Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi passed on at age        of 71. Chief Dokpesi, the founder of DAAR Communications, proprietor of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM died Monday morning, 29 May 2023, in Abuja.

Chief Dokpesi died while exercising on the treadmill in his home. His son, Raymond Dokpesi Jnr., confirmed the development in a statement on Monday.

Fake New ₦1,000 Notes in Circulation, See the Difference

It was reported that few days after the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, released the redesigned naira notes in the denominations of ₦200, N500 and ₦1,000, fake copies of the new ₦1,000 naira notes have been released into circulation.

A mobile money and bank agent in a video disclosed this saying that a customer performed a bank transaction through his wife’s Point of Sale (PoS) using the fake copy of the redesigned ₦1,000.
