The former head of state, Maj.-Gen. Mohammadu
Buhari (rtd.), has disclaimed the person in the net of the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for a N20m scam who claimed to be his
adopted son.
Buhari, the presidential candidate of the defunct
Congress for Progressive Change in the 2011 election, said once God had blessed
him with both male and female children, he had no cause to adopt any son.
The disclaimer by the former Head of State was contained in a statement by the Chairman of the Buhari Vanguard, Mr. Jasper Azuatalam, on Monday.
“Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) wishes to state
categorically that he does not have any adopted son called Muhammed Buhari and
had no need to adopt a son at any time having been blessed with choice
children, both male and female.
“Muhammadu Buhari and his family do not know the
said Muhammed Buhari, who is alleged to be involved in a N20m scam and is being
held by the EFCC as reported,” the statement stated.
Azuatalam urged Nigerians to ignore the report,
saying Buhari and his family would continue to set exemplary standards for
others.
He described the story as an attempt by mischief
makers to smear the image of the former military leader.
He said it was not enough to link the former Head
of State with the arrest just because the person involved answered the name
‘Buhari.’
“Muhammadu Buhari is blessed with very descent and
disciplined children, who obviously took after their father.
“His children have no
single record of stealing and inordinate behaviour anywhere in the world. They
do not seek attention, but have proven the stuff their father is made of any
time their character is put to test,” he added.
