Israeli Counter-terrorism Experts to Join Others in Nigeria Over the Missing School Girls

It was reported that Israel hinted President Goodluck about its decision to send its counter-terrorism experts to joint its global counterparts in Nigeria in the ongoing rescue operations of the school-girls abducted by the Boko Haram Insurgents in Chibok, Borno State of Nigeria last month.

The offer was conveyed to the president by the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in a phone conversation between the two leaders on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, in Abuja, Netanyahu called to convey his country’s sympathy and solidarity with Nigeria.

After the call, Jonathan said he was optimistic that with the entire international community deploying its considerable military and intelligence-gathering skills and assets in support of Nigeria’s efforts to find and rescue the abducted Chibok girls, success would soon be achieved.

The president welcomed the Israeli offer and briefed the Israeli PM on actions already being taken by Nigeria’s Armed Forces and security agencies to locate and rescue the girls, saying that Nigeria would be pleased to have Israel’s globally-acknowledged anti-terrorism expertise deployed to support its ongoing operations.

The statement added that Netanyahu, who expressed Israel’s total condemnation of the mass abduction, said the team of experts would soon arrive in Nigeria and would work in collaboration with teams from the United States and Britain, and their Nigerian counterparts, to intensify the search for the girls.

He reaffirmed Israel’s willingness to give the government and people of Nigeria all possible support and assistance to overcome terrorism and insecurity.
