The late 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin, was on Friday, 8 August, 2025 laid to rest in a solemn celebratory funeral service at the Saint Peter Cathedral Church, Aremo, Ibadan. The ceremony attracted dignitaries, residents and well-wishers who gathered to honour his life and legacy.

Ghana Clinches WAFCON Bronze after Penalty Shootout with South Africa

Ghana held their nerve in a dramatic penalty shootout to defeat South Africa and claim the bronze medal at the 2024 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Casablanca on Friday night of 25th July, 2025. After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, the Black Queens triumphed 4-3 in the shootout at Stade Larbi Zaouli to seal third place in the tournament.

It was a fitting end to a thrilling encounter between two fierce rivals with a history of closely contested matches at WAFCON.

Nigeria Thrashes Zambia to Reach Semi-Finals at WAFCON 2024

Nigeria Super Falcons cruised into the semi-finals of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2024) with a statement 5-0 victory over Zambia on 18th July, 2025 at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.

The Zambia Copper Queens had been expected to pose a tough challenge for the record 9-time champions, but were blown away by a stunning performance which was underlined by clinical finishing.

The West Africans never looked back after centre-back Osinachi Ohale was left unmarked at a free-kick in the second minute and headed past Petronella Musole.

Nigerian Super Falcons Draws Algeria Progresses to Quarter Final @WAFCON

Nigeria Super Falcons played goalless draw with their Algeria counterpart for the ongoing Women African Cup of Nations (WACON) tournament on Sunday, 13 July, 2025, in Casablanca, Morocco.

Nigeria sets up a quarter-final showdown with Zambia at the 2024 WACON after  a 0-0 draw with Algeria secured the Super Falcons top spot in Group B.

The result in Casablanca also meant the North Africans progressed to the last eight, where they will face the second-placed finisher in Group C.

Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona Passes On @91

The Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, passed on at the age of 91 on Sunday, 13 July, 2025, just hours after the announcement of the demise of his longtime friend, former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

Adetona, who ascended the throne in 1960, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning traditional rulers and widely revered for his contributions to the sociopolitical development of Ijebuland and Ogun State at large.

Nigeria's former president, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), who led the country twice as a military head of state and a democratic president, died in London on Sunday, 13 July, 2025. President Buhari reportedly died in London at about 4:30 p.m. (1530 GMT), following a prolonged illness.

The Presidency spokesperson said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and his Chief-of-Staff to travel to London to collect and accompany Buhari's body back to Nigeria for burial.

As the Otun Olubadan, the highest-ranking chief in the civil line, Ladoja is positioned first in line for the throne under the unique rotational system that governs the Ibadan traditional leadership.

Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olakulehin Passes On at 90

The 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has joined his ancestors in the early hours of Monday, 7th July 2025, at the age of 90. Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, mourns his passing.

The Governor received the delegation from the family of the late traditional ruler, which included the former President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) and Aare Mayegun of Ibadanland, Chief Bayo Oyero; younger brother of the deceased Olubadan, Mr Osuolale Owolabi Olakulehin; and son of the deceased, Aremo Olasumbo Owolabi.

Ex-Nigerian Super Eagles Legend, Peter Rufai Dies at 61

The former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, fondly known as “Dodo Mayana,” passed away on Thursday, 3 July 2025, after a brief illness.  He was  aged 61.

In a statement released by the family, they acknowledged the shock that greeted Rufai’s sudden demise but noted their gratitude to God for the impactful and illustrious life he lived.

“With total submission to the will of Almighty God, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the transition to glory of our father and brother, the legendary former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Prince Peter ‘Dodo Mayana’ Rufai,” the family said.

Pope Francis died early morning today Easter Monday, 21 April 2025, at the age of 88. The Pope’s death was announced by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Vatican Camerlengo who said the Pontiff died at 7:35 a.m.

The Head of the Catholic world died the day after Easter Sunday, the most important holiday in Christianity, when the world’s almost 1.3 billion Catholics celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Oyo Assembly Approves LG Budget to Enhance Transparency, Accountability

The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved today Tuesday 8 April 2025, the 2025 capital budget proposals of 33 local government areas in the state.

The approval became imperative ahead of the proposed financial autonomy for local governments in the state.

The approval was granted on Tuesday when the report of the House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and State Honours was presented by its Chairman, Hon. Akintunde Emmanuel (Lagelu).

Oyo State Former Governor Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo Passes On @ 90

Former Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo passed away in recent hours today Sunday, 6 April 2025, after short illness at a private hospital in Ibadan, aged 90.

His wife, Mrs. Ronke Olunloyo confirmed his death in a statement released earlier on Sunday on behalf of the family.

Dr. Olunloyo’s demise comes just days before his 90th birthday celebration which was already being planned, according to the family.

The Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde formally installed Oba Abimbola Owoade as 46th Alaafin of Oyo on Saturday, 5 April 2025 at the Olivet High School, Oyo, venue of the coronation ceremony.  Oba Owoade succeeds Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who died on 22 April 2022 at the age of 83.

Oyo Govt Withdraws Criminal Charges against Naomi Ooni’s Ex-wife, Others on Ibadan Stampede

The Oyo State Government has withdrawn all criminal charges against Naomi, an ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife; Agidigbo FM boss, Oriyomi Hamzat and the Principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Abdullahi Fasasi.

Initially, the three defendants had faced legal action following the tragic stampede at a children’s event organized by Naomi Silekunola, a former Ooni’s wife and seconded by owner of Agidigbo FM, Dr Oriyomi Hamzat in December 2024. The stampede claimed tens of lives.

Governor Seyi Makinde Appoints Prince Owoade as the Alaafin-elect of Oyo

In a bid to replace Oba Lamidi Adeyemi who passed on, on April 22, 2022, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Friday, 10th January 2025, formally approved the appointment of Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.

Governor Makinde was said to have communicated the approval in a public statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, on Friday.

Born into the revered Owoade-Agunloye royal family in Oyo town, Prince Owoade is the descendant of Aremo Aderounmu Iyanda Owoade, Agure Compound, Oyo town, Oyo State, Nigeria.

Police Arrests a Teacher for Child Abuse (Corporal Punishment)

One Stella Nwadigo, aged 45, the teacher who physically abused the 3-year-old Abayomi Micheal of Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu, has been arrested by the police. She was arrested on Tuesday 8th Jan, 2025, immediately after the criminal act. Justice must be served.
