Street
hawking and trading by school-aged children during school hours have been
banned on Wednesday by Ogun State Government.
The
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Elizabeth Sonubi,
announced the ban at a sensitization rally in Abeokuta.
She
warned that violating the order first and second times would be warned and the
third time would be remanded at the state juvenile home.
Sonubi said the violation attracts a specified fine and presentation of tax receipts by his or her parents or guardian.
“We
want every child to take opportunity of what they have now and ensure they
acquire skills.
“We
want parents and guardians to monitor their children as they are the leaders of
tomorrow.
“If
we take care of them, there will be peace in our homes, state and the nation at
large,” she said.
Sonubi implored parents and guardians to monitor the educational and
moral development of their wards to enable them become productive citizens in
the future.
