Super Falcons Won AWCON title for the 8th Time

Nigeria's Super Falcons on Saturday 3rd December, 2016 won the 2016 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) for the eighth time in Yaounde after beating hosts Cameroon 1-0 before a capacity 40,000 crowd.
An 84th minute goal from Desire Oparanozie was enough for Nigeria to retain the trophy they won in Namibia two years ago, when they beat the same Indomitable Lionesses 2-0.

Egyptian Actor Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz Dies at 70 (1946 – 2016)

The Egyptian Ministry of Culture announced on Saturday evening 12 November, 2016 the death of Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz, one of Egypt's most renowned television and film actors in the past 40 years, after a long struggle with illness. 
Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz was born in Wardeyan, Alexandria on 4 June 1946. He graduated from the department of the Agricultural Science at Alexandria University in the 1960s.

Nigeria Beats Algeria 3 – 1 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Algeria 3 – 1 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier played in Uyo.  Victor Moses opened the scoring with a solo goal while Mikel Obi added a second from a one on one position.

In the second half, Nabil Bentaleb scored a cracker from almost 35 yards after Riyad Mahrez had drawn Oghenekaro Etebo and Ogenyi Onazi out of position with some piece of trickery.

Nigeria Beat Zambia 2-1 @ 2018 World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria Super Eagles clinched 2-1 win over Zambia on Sunday, 9 October, 2016 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. The first half goals from Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho gave coach Gernot Rohr a winning start in the 2018 World Cup qualifying series.

The visitors made light work of their hosts who got their consolation courtesy Collins Mbesuma at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Dream Team VI defeated Honduras 3-2 to win the 2016 Olympics men’s football bronze medal in Belo Horizonte on Saturday 20 August, 2016.

The Japanese multi-millionaire Dr Katsuya Takasu, who promised Coach Samson Siasia and his boys a huge amount of money has fulfilled immediately after the match.


The Japanese plastic surgeon promised to give $390,000 to Nigeria "Dream Team" if they win Gold, Silver or Bronze at the men’s football event of the Rio Olympics.

Nigeria U-23 took on Honduras U23 in the third place final of the Rio Olympics men's football event in Belo Horizonte with 3 – 2 win  to entitle Bronze medal for Nigeria.

The first goal came through Sadiq Umar who converted an accurate pass from the team captain Mikel Obi to the left of Honduras goal keeper Luis Lopez.

Nigeria’s U-23 team progressed to the quarter-finals on Sunday 7th July, 2016 at the Men's Olympic Football Tournament Rio 2016 after a 1-0 victory over Sweden in Group B courtesy of a Sadiq Umar header at the Amazonia Arena in Manaus.
For a large part of the match both sides were playing conservatively but Nigeria certainly looked the most threatening in attack.

US Fire Service Responds to a Sango Fire & Smoke Display During Ooni of Ife’s Visit to Washington DC Museum

I Never Ordered Use of Hijab In Schools: Gov. Aregbesola

The Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, on Monday denied ordering the use of Hijab by female Muslim students in public schools in the state.
Aregbesola said this during a roundtable organised by the Development and Advancement in Western Nigeria (DAWN) in Osogbo, the state capital.
He challenged those who accused him of ordering the use of Hijab by Muslims to substantiate their claims.

Obama’s Award Awaits Ooni of Ife, June 13 declared Yoruba Day in NYC

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, left for the United States on Wednesday 8th June, 2016 and was on Friday hosted by the indigenes of Ile-Ife, Osun State, resident in the United States.
The monarch, with his entourage, was received at the J.F. Kennedy Airport, New York, by leaders of Ife indigenes and other Nigerians in the US on Thursday.
A New York City Senator, Kevin Parker, and the Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams, said the city had secured a proclamation to declare Monday, June 13, 2016 as Yoruba Day.
They said the action was to honour the monarch.
The statement added that a number of programmes had been scheduled to honour the traditional ruler while in the country.

The Ooni was presented with the key to the City of Summerset, Franklin Township New Jersey, and honoured with the proclamation of the town of Franklin in a ceremony on Sunday.
Taking place in New York, the handing over of the key was performed by the Honourable Mayor Philip Kramer, while being witnessed by several American dignitaries.

The Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amodu Shuaibu, died at the age of 58, four days after the death of a former coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi.
The Edo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Kassim Afegbua, confirmed the death of former Nigerian veteran coach Amodu Shuaibu, on 11th June, 2016.

Nollywood Actress, Henrietta Kosoko Dies At 53

A Nollywood actress, Henrietta Kosoko, wife of veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, passed on at the Sacred Heart Catholic Hospital, Lantoro, Abeokuta on Monday 6th June, 2016, at the age of 53. She celebrated her 53rd birthday last week. She was said to have slumped and rushed to the hospital.
Henrietta (Nee Onovosa) was said to be in coma and sadly, she eventually gave up the ghost. The actress who started her career decades ago with a Yoruba movie titled 'Omolade' has been battling with diabetes for a while now and she has managed to cope with.

The Chairman of the Edo State Football Association (EFA), Frank Ilaboya, confirmed early hour this morning, today Wednesday 8th June, 2016 that the former Nigeria’s Super Eagle Coach, Stephen Keshi, died. King Saliu Adetunji, the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland

On Friday 4th March, 2016, the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, presented the staff of office to High Chief Saliu Adetunji as the 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland, at the famous Mapo Hall, in the ancient city. Appeal Court Affirms 5 Years Imprisonment of A Nollywood Actress

The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal has upheld the judgment of a Lagos State High Court sentencing an ex-beauty queen, Ibinabo Fiberesima, to five years imprisonment for manslaughter.

The lower court presided over by Justice Deborah Oluwayemi had convicted Fiberesima of manslaughter, ruling that the actress’ reckless driving was responsible for the death of one Dr. Giwa Suraj on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

Benin Republic Recognises Yoruba as Official Language



Nigeria's Ambassador to Benin, Dr Lawrence Obisakin, disclosed that the Yoruba language has been recognised as second official language in BENIN Republic. Hence, Yoruba Kingdom is fully extended in its origins.

Dr Lawrence Obisakin disclosed also that Dendi, another indigenous Benin language, is also being recognised alongside Yoruba by the Beninoise Government, underscoring the affinity between the two countries.
