Dokubo-Asari’s Arrest in Cotonou: Presidency Moves In!

It is reported Tuesday that President Goodluck Jonathan has intervened in the arrest of A Former Niger Delta militant Alhaji Muhajeed Dokubo-Asari by the Government of Republic of Benin.

In a quick move, it was learnt that a request for explicit details of why Dokubo-Asari was arrested by the Beninoise Gendarmerie has been made on Wednesday through diplomatic source.

The ex-militant was picked up around the Lubeleyi roundabout and taken to "an unknown destination” between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, according to his lawyer, Festus Kayamo, who in a statement said, “Dokubo-Asari carries on legitimate business and has been living partly in Benin Republic for many years now.”

Reliable sources said he owns houses, schools and an academy in that country and “no official issue” had been established against his client, even though he did not rule out “political undertone” in the entire saga.

It was gathered on good authority that President Jonathan had directed the appropriate offices in the presidency to follow up on the matter with a view to getting the right insight into the nature of the alleged offence before throwing his weight behind the controversial Nigerian.

Our dependable source told us that President Jonathan had been getting several calls since the arrest was reported, from those who believe early presidential intervention had become necessary.
Most of the calls were probably from prominent natives of the South South area of the country where Dokubo-Asari hails from.
