We Wanted to Win Over Ghana and Qualify for Brazil – Egyptian Soccer Fans

Ghana beat Egypt 7-3 on aggregate to book a place in Brazil. And it’s the third consecutive world cup appearance for the Ghanaian National team.

Ghana went down by two goals to one to the pharaohs at the 30th June Air Defence stadium this evening.

Just after the Ivorian referee whistles to bring the game to an end, The News Hunter got in touch with its Egyptian correspondent Ahmed Gamel Abdein, and these is how the interaction goes:

Ahmed what’s the mood in Egypt now after the match?
Good and very civilized, and all I will say is good luck to Ghana in Brazil.

Are Egyptians jubilating over the 2-1 victory?
Yes, we are happy for the good match and friendly manner.

Before the start of the game were you hopeful that you can make it to Brazil?
Why not? Football only know effort and some good luck on your day, it was 10%. We wanted to win and achieve that.

So are you disappointed that you couldn’t qualify?
Nope, this is football and a sport, Good luck for us next time.

Who do you blame, coach or playing body?
Coach for the poor formation in Ghana plus it was a bad day, also the players didn’t prepare well. Don’t forget we don’t have league for 3 years now, Yet Ahly won the champions league and will play in the world cup for clubs football. So that’s our motivation.

Do you think the coach should be maintained or sacked?
Ummm…….I don’t know but he failed his mission. He knows what the goal means for him coaching Egypt but he failed, however, it was very tough for him because of the absent of club league in Egypt now. He only played friendly matches with some small teams. So I don’t really know.
