Crack in Oyo APC at Lam Adesina's remembrance

TWO separate events were Monday held in Ibadan, Oyo State capital to commemorate the one year remembrance of former governor, Lam Adesina, even as the incumbent governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, begged his aggrieved colleagues in the 2011 gubernatorial primaries to join forces with his administration.  While appealing to the party chieftains who were annoyed by his choice as the party’s flag bearer to sheath their sword, saying the unity of the party was the only magic wand for it to cling second term.

The appeal came as signs of imminent crack appeared in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following two separate prayer sessions held for the deceased.

While the Lam Adesina family organised theirs at the Felele residence of the former leader, the government event took place at the Lekan Salami, Adamasingba Stadium, both in the state capital.
While the widow, Sarat and her children led by Dr. Ayobami Adesina (safe Dapo Adesina – Youth and Sports Commissioner) held the remembrance programme at Felele, Ajimobi held another with Dapo Adesina in attendance.

The Adamasingba event was attended by APC National Leader, Ahmed Bola Tinubu and governors of the South West, with many of the party’s chieftains.

Many of the dignitaries that graced the Felele celebration were immediate governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, Aare Arisekola Alao, Chief Michael Koleoso (Lam’s deputy), Chief Iyiola Oladokun, Senator Ayoade Adeseun, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu, Chief Sarafa Alli, Hon. Kazeem Adedeji, among others.

While addressing the gathering where he disclosed that Adesina anointed him as the governorship choice among eight others before the 2011 election, Ajimobi said, “I am using this forum to appeal to all other contestants to stop getting annoyed with me. I beg them to sheath their swords and work together with me. Let us get united because of our late leader, whom we are celebrating today. Let us stop fighting”.

Koleoso, who debunked claims of disunity in the party said “there is no rancour between the Lam family and the government. Though there could be some underground issues, we are still together. We saw the government’s invitation on Saturday, while the family had their plan earlier.”

“That is why it is the way it is. So, people should stop unnecessary insinuation that there is any rancour between the family of late Lam and the government of Ajimobi”, Koleoso explained.
While the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheik Suara Aruna delivered a sermon at Felele, Sheik Muideen Bello preached at Adamasingba.
