In a
directive given by the State Commissioner for Education, Professor Solomon
Olaniyonu, on behalf of the Oyo State Government, all public secondary school students,
the 2014 WAEC Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations Candidates in
the state have been told to access their results on the net. The statement was
issued in Ibadan on Monday 25 August, 2014.
The
commissioner also refuted a politically motivated rumour spread all over that
the state government reneged on its promise of offsetting the WAEC fees of SSS
III students preparing for WAEC Senior Secondary School Certificate
Examinations in the state.
With an
indication proving that the Senator Abiola Ajimobi-led administration is a
responsible and responsive government that would not take the lives of its
students for granted, Professor Olaniyonu disclosed that government had paid a
total sum of N1.7 billion as WAEC fees between 2011 and 2014.
The
commissioner said that a total sum of N339,000,000 was paid in 2011 for 60,000
candidates, while N396,548,000, N446,227,600 and N540,410,400 were paid for
76,786, 55,432 and 54,864 candidates as WAEC fees in 2012, 2013 and 2014,
respectively.
He said
that the state government had even overpaid WAEC to the tune of over N75
million which was later returned to government by the examining body, adding
that this had underscored the fact that the Ajimobi-led administration was a
responsible government.
The
commissioner blamed the unfounded rumours on the opposition, which he said, was
all out to virtually politicise everything and set the citizens against the
government.
