The latest about you now is that you have converted to Islam, what informed the decision?
Actually, my conversion to Islam is not new, it’s only that people were not aware.  I have been a Muslim for long.  I even have a picture to support that. Although my name is Elizabeth, which is the Christian name my dad gave me because he was a Christian.

The Biggest Oil Refinery Launched in Ibadan by Governor Ajimobi

The Incumbent Executive Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, inaugurated the biggest automated edible oil refinery and Margarine Company in sub-Saharan Africa in Ibadan, Oyo State on Friday 7th November, 2014.

Brig. Gen. Benjamin Adekunle, the Black Scorpion, Dies at 78

The ‘civil war’ veteran, popularly known as the ‘Black Scorpion,’ Brig.-Gen Benjamin Adekunle (rtd.) died on Saturday morning in Lagos at the age of 78, according to his wife, Folake.

Adekunle, an active player in the Nigerian Civil War, who was compulsorily retired from the Nigerian Army in 1974, was the first to lead the famous 3rd Marine Commando during the war between the Nigerian Government and the self-declared Republic of Biafra. The civil war that lasted three year, started in July 1967 and which the military unit eventually spearheaded its end in January 1970.

National Women Summit in Ibadan, Oyo State

The Nigerian First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, is expected to join other women in Ibadan, Oyo State capital tomorrow for the opening ceremony of the National Women Summit.

Doctors Condemned 22 Sept Schools Resumption, Ebola Should Be Given Time – NMA

Doctors throughout the federation have condemned the Federal Government decision on schools’ resumption date scheduled for 22nd Sept instead of 12th October. IBEDC, Electricity Has Come to Stay in Ibadan

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, has at last restored power supply in Ibadan outskirts as it commissioned the rehabilitated 2X15MVA, 33/11KVA Substation at Akanran Road, Olorunsogo, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The rehabilitated sub-station, with two 15MVA injections, distributes power to the local government and other communities from five local government areas in Ibadan.

The Oyo State 2014 WAEC Candidates Can Access Results Online – OYSGN

In a directive given by the State Commissioner for Education, Professor Solomon Olaniyonu, on behalf of the Oyo State Government, all public secondary school students, the 2014 WAEC Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations Candidates in the state have been told to access their results on the net. The statement was issued in Ibadan on Monday 25 August, 2014.

EVD is Over, Schools Resume 13th October

The Nigerian Federal Government has set 13 October, 2014 for all primary and secondary schools in the country to resume after it had been postponed as result of Ebola Virus Diseases (EVD) in the country.

The new resumption date was announced by the Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau after a marathon meeting with all the 36 state Commissioners of Education in Abuja on Tuesday.

Shekarau, who briefed journalists after the meeting, said all private schools in the country should also comply with the directive and all schools summer programmes must be suspended with immediate effect.

Nigeria Overcomes EVD, Only One Case Left – Health Minister

The Nigerian Health Minister, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu, has declared in Abuja on Tuesday that only the spouse of a doctor who died of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), is now being treated at the Isolation centre in Lagos State.

Chukwu who addressed journalists in company with his counterpart in the Ministry of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, said that a male doctor and a female nurse who were primary contacts of the late Patrick Sawyer, were discharged on Monday.

DAWN, Yoruba Movie Academy Awards Reach an Agreement

The authority that sees to the legacy and development of Yoruba Language and people, the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the organiser and executive producer of Yoruba Movie Academy Awards (YMAA), Mr. Tunde Oshinibosi, aka Laface.

The agreement, according to Laface, “is geared towards the actualisation and continued development of the Yoruba Movie Academy Awards and the Yoruba movie industry in general.”

Group Demands INEC More Machines and Officials – Kwara State

Safe Yoruba Language and Culture – Feyikemi Olayinka

Bidding support for the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) ‘endangered languages programme’, Nollywood actress and broadcaster, Feyikemi Niyi-Olayinka, has announced a Yoruba summer programme for children. This is in the wake of an estimate of UNESCO noting that if nothing is done, half of 6000 plus languages spoken today will disappear by the end of this century.

Feyikemi’s effort follows a similar bid by ace cinematographer, Tunde Kelani, whose film, Arugba, among others, is used as advocacy tool of safeguarding the Yoruba language and culture.

New Academic Session Postponed – Ogun State Government

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Segun Odubela, said on Thursday that the state government had postponed the resumption date for all primary and secondary schools in the state. Therefore, the resumption date earlier fixed for September 15, 2014 had been shifted to a date to be announced later.

Tuition Fees Slashed – OAU

The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, announced further reduction in the tuition fees payable by students of institution, on Thursday, just as it urged undergraduates to exhibit discipline and commitment to their academic programmes. The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, said in a press release signed by him that the slash in tuition fees was attributed to the fair treatment endorsed by the management under the leadership of the vice chancellor, Professor Bamitale Omole.

Apete Pedestrian Bridge Must Be Completed Weekend – Ajimobi Orders

The Oyo Governor Ajimobi has stated and directed, while addressing journalists shortly after an inspection visit to the Apete bridge, that the contractor handling Apete Bridge and the state Ministry of Works must ensure that a temporary pedestrian bridge is put in place by this weekend while the main bridge is to be completed by end of 2014. 

The Governor said the bridge could not have been completed earlier than now because of the revision in design coupled with additional alterations which had extended the completion date.

Prof. Dora Akunyili to be Buried on Aug 28

The family of the erstwhile NAFDAC boss has announced that the former minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, will be buried on August 28, 2014.

“Details about the funeral arrangements will be made available to the public in due course,” her husband, Dr Chike Akunyili, said in a statement issued in Awka, Anambra State, on Sunday.

The husband thanked Nigerians for the love they extended to his beloved wife, both in life and at death.

Lagos States University (LASU) Fees Revisited and Slashed By Govt.

In a crucial move to heed students’ complaints and agony, the Lagos State Government announced a reduction in the tuition fees of the state university.

The government said the reduction would be between 34 – 60 per cent across the different faculties and courses.

The aggrieved Students of the Lagos State University had staged many protests to air their complaints against the “high school fees” and had demanded its reduction.
